Hello Parents,
We hope that you are all staying happy and healthy!
To help you continue your child's learning at home, we are sending home some ideas to help keep your kids busy.
*Outside activities - As you know, kids have a lot of energy and we recommend getting them outside. Go to the local park and encourage your child to climb ladders and go down slides. Running and jumping are all great gross motor activities.
- Make a pattern using rocks and pinecones.
- Go outside and look for birds - listen to their sounds - how many different sounds can you hear?
- Get some sidewalk chalk and colour on the sidewalk (once the snow melts)
* Playdough recipe:
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
3/4 cup water
3 Tablespoons of Lemon Juice
1 Tablespoon oil
food colouring/glitter (optional)
Place all ingredients into a pot and put on stove top on Medium heat. Stir until "cooked" and it forms a ball. Roll on counter to cool and store in a ziploc bag on the counter.
* Story ideas - Please read a book to your child. Take time to look at the illustrations and point out certain things in each picture. Whether it's a colour or a number of items. Speak aloud of what is happening in the story.
* Themes - This week we were going to focus on St. Patrick's Day and Rainbows. Have you child collect items from around the house that represent each colour of the rainbow. Have your child colour a picture with each colour of the rainbow.
* Cutting practice - cut some paper into strips. Draw black marker lines on each sheet and have your child practice cutting along the black line. Remember that when holding scissors, ensure your thumb is pointing up and are using "open, slide, shut"
* Numbers 1-5 (songs) - We have been working on number sense 1-5 and regularly sing songs that include numbers and counting.
- 5 green and speckled frogs
- 5 little ducks
- 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed
* Dressing/undressing skills (zipper) - This is a great time to give your child some extra time to pick out their own outfits and get dressed independently (if possible) Have them practice pulling on pants and putting on shirts. This is also a great time to practice putting on shoes and learning how to begin to zip and unzip their jacket zippers.
* Super Simple Songs - Action songs - Online has a lot of great resources to keep your kids active. Check out "action songs" in Super Simple Songs.
Also "just dance for kids" on youtube
Have a dance party in the house or even a dance competition
In Music Class we also love "Dinosaur Stomp" by the Kiboomers.
Please continue to check the CBE website for updated information.
